Overhead door closers can be mounted in different ways depending upon the application for which they are being used.     

Figure 1 (Regular fixing) - Closer body is mounted on the PULL face of the door.

This is the most common method of fixing a door closer. The door closer is fixed to the opening face of the door on the hinge side.

 

Figure 61 (Transom fixing) - Closer body is mounted on the transom on the PUSH side of the door.

This application allows a door closer to be fitted on outward opening external doors where the door closer needs to be inside the building to protect it from vandalism and the weather.

 

Figure 66 (Parallel fixing) - Closer body is mounted on the PUSH side of the door.

This fixing method position is where the door closer is mounted to closing face of the door opposite the hinge side.  The arm of the closer is then fitted to the parallel arm bracket, which is fitted underneath the head of the door frame.
